Welcome to day 1. Today we start with a clean slate. EVERYTHING is erased. So let’s get started. The first thing we have to do is restructure our life. The new order of importance goes God, family, job, health. There is no room for ANYTHING else until these obligations are met. What does this mean? This means you have no favorite t.v. show, no favorite bar to hang out at, no time for video games, not even a favorite book to read, until these obligations are met. Your priority is not to find out what Olivia Pope is wearing. You have no favorite team. It doesn’t even matter what time the game comes on. If you don’t call off work, you don’t skip exercise. Therefore your first order of business is choosing what activity you want to participate in. The only rules are it has to incorporate resistance training (upper-body and lowerbody) and cardio. One hour at the most. I choose exercises that combine both. I will post the 30,20,10 challenge for anyone that doesn’t have a workout already.

Let’s focus on detox. I’ve been doing some research on detoxing and why we need it. Because of the unnatural foods we eat, we ingest a great deal of toxins (things on the ingredient list that didn’t come from the garden). Our bodies have two ways of dealing with these toxins. Coat them in mucus or store them in fat since most of them are fat soluble. For this reason the body may not want to loose fat. If you force the body to burn fat, you will release those bound up toxins to do damage. The first two detox foods are parsley and cilantro. Parsley is responsible for cleaning your entire blood supply, it also freshens breath. Cilantro binds to heavy metals like mercury, which can be found in the fish we eat. Put these foods on your grocery list. Notice I’m not telling you to buy a box of detox off the shelf. There will be more items to add to your list later…..baby steps. Drink 24oz of room temperature water and I’ll see you back here later.

~ its about what YOU see in the mirror~

PLEASE CONSULT YOUR PHYSICIAN BEFORE DIET CHANGE OR PHYSICAL TRAINING.

Seasoned Fabulousness

“Take care of your body when you’re young, and your body will take care of you later” a quote that I have heard my mother say, at least 1 million times in my 27 year life span. But as of late, I have really been thinking about the up keep of my body, and being challenged to do more. Especially after watching legendary women three times my age like Chaka Khan on the Soul Train Awards dancing like she was in her early thirties but actually 60!!  And reading about Ms. Tina Turner (The Goddess of Legs LOL!) getting remarried (to a man 20 years her junior! What’s age got to do with it? LOL) and looking FIERCE at age 73. I began to feel some type of way and thought to myself there has to be a method to this “Seasoned” Fabulousness and I’m about to grab my iPad and take notes. So ladies (and gentlemen I don’t discriminate) I have picked four of the most gorgeous regal women in my opinion that’s over 50 and can shake a tail feather without a Cane or a Hoover Round. Diva’s Take Note.

1.      Angela Bassett: Age 54. Mrs. Bassett has been a friend in my head since she was rolling on the River playing Anna Mae Bullock in the Biopic of the legend, herself Tina Turner. Smiling, a couple of facials a year, vegetarian diet and hitting the gym are something’s that keep this mommy of twins looking GREAT!

2.      Christie Brinkley: Age 59. When I found out the age of this classic beauty I almost flipped over my computer. This Supermodel and Mom of two says working out is essential. She advices when it comes to working-out you need to find variety. The key is not to get bored. Well Ma’am whatever you are doing it is working. You look GORG!

3.      Betty White: Age 91. Rose was my favorite on the Golden Girls. But Mrs. Betty is definitely living her life like its GOLDEN. Her secret; Laughter and Good SEX(Well ok)

4.      Artie Tyler (Mommy): Age 54. When People see my mommy they sometimes ask are we sisters. That doesn’t always sit well with me, but hey! She’s beautiful and looks good for her age. Her advice, live a clean, life! Smile and keep God First. And not too many CARBS!!!!

Well Ladies the secret is out!!! Take it from these diva’s, taking care of your body reaps great benefits. I’m about to hit the gym. If you know a woman that is 50 and older let me know and I will post their picture and their secret in my next blog.

Ladies, I have a secret for you. This secret is one that I wouldn’t mind if you told all of your girlfriends, nieces, aunties, and co-workers. You ready? Ok here it is. The secret is that, what makes you look good isn’t always what we see on the outside, and no I’m not about to quote the beloved Temptations, and say that “Beauty is only skin deep” (which is always true), but what lies beneath that hot dress, or that pencil skirt, is just as important as the pump, and the purse that sets it off. What lies beneath is what makes you look well put together and sometimes a little slimmer.

A great undergarment is the secret to a great finishing outfit. Proper bras, and shape wear can make the difference between a good look and a great look. I had to learn this lesson at an early age, being blessed in the chest area (oh yeah) I learned that a good bra is a MUST. My favorite brands; The Butterfly bra by Jill Scott (Ashley Stewart), and the Cacique brand (Lane Bryant). These bras have given me great lift and excellent support, making my “girls” look good in those low cut tops, and form fitting shirts. You never want sagging, or overage (your cup running over is not cute, means that your bra is too small).

Don’t know what bra size you are? Lane Bryant and Ashley Stewart offer bra sizing just ask an associate. There are all types of bra styles and fit; don’t be afraid to try them on.  You may be smaller or larger than what was measured so take the extra time to make sure you look extra fabulous. If you happen to be blessed in the chest area like me, minimizer style bras are your best friend, this style bra does what it says minimize, not all shirts and dresses call for the “big guns” and minimizer’s will do the trick. To my ladies who want a little more in that area, Push up bra’s and Wonder bra’s are excellent, Victoria Secret has you covered.
Shape wear is an essential part of the plus size divas wardrobe. When asked on the View what is a “Must Have” Beyonce` and Ms. Tina responded SPANX! If it’s good for Bey its great for us! Spanx can suck in any unwanted “cushion” that we don’t want seen in our apparel. Lane Bryant, Target, and even Walgreens carry them. Ladies invest, you will be happy that you did.

What Lies beneath is as important as what hairstyle, or lipstick to wear. Even though no one sees it, it truly reflects through our clothes. So spread the word yell the secret to every woman you know, What Lies beneath MATTERS!!!

THE DARK V DAY

Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate romance and love and kissy-face fealty. But the origins of this festival of candy and cupids are actually dark, bloody — and a bit muddled.

Though no one has pinpointed the exact origin of the holiday, one good place to start is ancient Rome, where men hit on women by, well, hitting them.

Those Wild And Crazy Romans

From Feb. 13 to 15, the Romans celebrated the feast of Lupercalia. The men sacrificed a goat and a dog, then whipped women with the hides of the animals they had just slain.

The Roman romantics “were drunk. They were naked,” says Noel Lenski, a historian at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Young women would actually line up for the men to hit them, Lenski says. They believed this would make them fertile.

The brutal fete included a matchmaking lottery, in which young men drew the names of women from a jar. The couple would then be, um, coupled up for the duration of the festival — or longer, if the match was right.

The ancient Romans may also be responsible for the name of our modern day of love. Emperor Claudius II executed two men — both named Valentine — on Feb. 14 of different years in the 3rd century A.D. Their martyrdom was honored by the Catholic Church with the celebration of St. Valentine’s Day.

Later, Pope Gelasius I muddled things in the 5th century by combining St. Valentine’s Day with Lupercalia to expel the pagan rituals. But the festival was more of a theatrical interpretation of what it had once been. Lenski adds, “It was a little more of a drunken revel, but the Christians put clothes back on it. That didn’t stop it from being a day of fertility and love.”

Around the same time, the Normans celebrated Galatin’s Day. Galatin meant “lover of women.” That was likely confused with St. Valentine’s Day at some point, in part because they sound alike.
